Have you ever heard “Mama Said”
from the Shirelles?

Me neither… until today. LOL. (I didn’t even know who the Shirelles were – still don’t’) So here is the Chorus…

“Mama, said there’ll be days like this…
there’ll be days like this, Mama said”

Anyway, let me explain… I had heard that portion of the song on a TV commercial. I don’t even remember what the commercial was about, sincerely. But the song remained in my mind. So years later after my son’s ASD diagnosis I started to changed the lyrics to:

“Mama, didn’t say there’ll be days like this…
there’ll be days like this…”

Seriously, that updated version of the song started playing in my head when I had “challenging” days.

I think my version of the song is valid. Our Moms couldn’t have anticipated special needs in our lives. I mean what kind of Mom’s advice could you get to prepare you for something so unexpected?

So truly, Mama didn’t say there’ll be days like some of the ones we have, because no-one thinks about it until it happens.

Good thing our beautiful Jesus, did anticipate days like this and prepared us realistically for them… Before he left earth he told us:

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

In Christ we can have peace and overcome anything. He knew life wouldn’t be so easy, but he promised to be there to get us through, to open doors and comfort us. Every season and trial in life has purpose and if we look at life through his eyes we realize that even when we cry, we do it with hope and a divine purpose.

So take Heart my fellow over-comer!  We can do it!
